About Dr. Kimelheim
First, let me tell you who I am not… I am not a Dermatologist. I am a Rheumatologist.
There is quite a bit of overlap between these 2 fields of medicine; however, I come to you as a Rheumatologist.
Though above and beyond, I am a father of 3 wonderful boys – 28-year-old triplets.
My clinical career began in 1991 when I joined, and eventually took the reins of, Philadelphia-based Arthritis &
Rheumatic Disease Consultants (ARDC) until 2017.
The road that led me there began at Temple University, Philadelphia PA where I received my BA, then MS
degrees.
I did my medical training at PCOM (Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine).
I followed that up with several years in the NAVY where I completed my Residency Training in Internal
Medicine at Naval Hospital Portsmouth Virginia.
My Navy experience in and around that time included:
- Time as a medical officer on an aircraft carrier (USS John F Kennedy, CV-67)
- Internist and Chief of Internal Medicine at Naval Hospital Newport Rhode Island
- Served time as a Navy Reservist when I was part of Fleet Hospital 15/20 during Operation Desert Storm.
I returned to Philadelphia to undertake specialty training in Rheumatology at Temple University Hospital before
joining ARDC.
I first came to Texas Summer of 2017 as Rheumatology Division Head at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas.
That was foreshortened by the COVID pandemic which drove me closer to Philadelphia to be near my family as
the unknowns were sorted out. I joined a multi-specialty group that later became part of the University of
Pennsylvania, but it wasn’t long before the option to return to Texas presented itself, and with “all my ducks in a
row”, jumped back in.
